The settings menu is the most underrated part of a mobile game

I've started judging games partly by how much thought went into their settings menu, because a generous options screen signals that the developers actually care about how different people play.

The best menus let you change control layouts, tune sensitivity, cap frame rates, resize text, and toggle effects. Every one of those options solves a real problem for someone, whether it's small hands, an older phone, or tired eyes at night.

I called out the low-power modes in a few of our reviews for exactly this reason. When Emberfall Chronicle lets you cap exploration frame rates, it's handing you back battery life for free. When a game forces a single fixed setting, it's telling you it wasn't designed for the messy variety of real phones.

So before you write a game off as laggy or awkward, dig into the settings. More often than not, the fix is a couple of taps away.
